Texas billionaire Robert Bass wants us to buy the Aerion supersonic jet ($80 million), which is capable of flying eight passengers between New York and L.A. in less than three hours, fast enough to party in New York and catch dinner in L.A. The Aerion, which debuted at Paris’ Le Bourget air show in 2007, is tentatively scheduled for delivery in the next decade.

A comparable Gulfstream G650 will carry eight passengers and a crew of four 7000 nautical miles at mach 0.85. Embraer now offers the Lineage 1000, which carries up to 19 passengers. Then there is the Bombardier Global Express XRS and the Falcon 7X, a $41 million eight-seater, and another new entrant in the superlarge business jet category.
