Best LCD TV

This weekend a bunch of geeks descended on an upstate New York store to attend an HDTV shoot out. The top-ranking LCD TV was a big surprise, as Toshiba beat overpriced local-dimming LED competitors Samsung and Sony. The new Toshiba 55SV670U ($3,000), a 55-inch model also available in a 46-inch, the Toshiba 46SV670U ($2,300), was lauded for its accurate colors, excellent black level and decent off-axis viewing.
Around an inch deep, the ultra-slim Samsung B8500 series features LED local dimming and is headed to these shores for delivery this fall, most likely in response to all the competitive LED action. In keeping with the latest trends, the Samsung features built-in Ethernet and is “wireless-ready” to provide ready access to Yahoo! widgets.

Samsung’s next-generation LED HDTV is the B8500 series, which will be available in 46- and 55-inch sizes, and features a “mega dynamic contrast ratio” plus next-generation 240Hz Auto Motion Plus. Because it’s not edge-lit, the B8500 will not be as slim as the B8000 series, pictured above.

Ive seen a B8000 in action and its a fantastic screen, the picture quality is superb and even when its turned off it still looks great!
If the toshiba’s beaten the samsung 8 series that well then it must be pretty impressive, i cant wait till it comes out in the uk!

Highly recommend the Toshiba 46SV670U. Its an absolute wonderful TV. Just picked one up for the basement…If your looking for something smaller I also recommend the new 32″ 1080p LCD TV, L3226EA-BL from FAVI Entertainment. Picked this up a bit ago for my bedroom. The specs for the new Samsung 8 Series TVs make pretty good reading - surprised they’ve been released in the EU but not in the US?
Interesting that a standard Toshiba LCD beat a range of the new LED TVs. Guessing Samsung don’t want that to get out, bearing in mind the money they’ve ploughed into advertising over here. Maybe time to wait for a bit to allow the LED TV technology to improve?
