Best Notebook Computer

The aluminum Apple MacBook ($1,500) is unquestionably the best laptop on the market today. Apple has done a superb job creating what is not only a great-looking computer, but one that feels solid, brick-like in fact. And now that it is once again equipped with a FireWire port and also gains an SD slot, this package is complete.

Outstanding features include a 13-inch LED-backlit display that makes previous generation MacBooks pale by comparison. A backlit keyboard lets you tweet in the dark, and who doesn’t multitask in front of TV these days or at Starbucks these days? A market-pacing DisplayPort, plus a truly groundbreaking multi-touch trackpad round out the stellar MacBook Pro

The multi-touch trackpad adds to usability in a way that must be experienced to be believed. For example, a four-finger swipe up brings up the desktop; a four-finger swipe down shows Exposé, while a four-finger swipe across allows you to quickly switch applications. Other laptops are quickly adopting similar features.

But what’s very infrequently discussed is the fact that the Mac now boasts more innovative software than the Windows platform. In particular, there’s a whole new wave of software that tightly integrates between the iPhone and Macs, putting the Mac lightyears ahead of what’s available on the “Dark Side,” as Mac fanboys like to put it.
