This Miele Polaris S4212 ($400) canister vacuum cleaner receives nothing but raves from owners. Everyone loves its incredibly light weight, which makes it extremely maneuverable. The Polaris works on hard floors or low carpet. Step on a button and the brushes retract to clean rugs or carpet. They may be expensive but Mieles easily last 10 years. My first Miele lasted 11, and I wouldn’t even have replaced it if I didn’t lust after this überlight Polaris so much.

Audi has launched the new Audi S5 ($68,000) convertible that, along with the new Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet, bucks the folding hard-top trend but adds its famous all-wheel drive quattro as standard. A 3.0-liter supercharged V-6, rated at 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet torque, is just half a second slower from 0-60 mph than the V-8 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG and Audi’s own V-8 S5 coupe, says Motor Trend.

The new 2009 BMW Z4 ($45,750 - $51,650) was designed by two women. No wonder the new Z4 appears lean yet voluptuous. Besides the revamped styling, the new Z4 has a very welcome retractable hard top. The top of the line sDrive35i has a 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbo six, and an optional seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission that can be paddle-shifted via the steering-wheel.

Those of you have flown the McDonnell Douglas’ fantastic MD-80, or Super 80, know that it is the fastest-climbing and quietest plane on the market. Like you, we bemoaned Boeing taking over this aircraft, effectively killing it. The Bombardier CRJ900 ($37 million) gets our vote as the true successor to the Super 80. The CRJ900 cruises at max speeds of Mach 0.83 (547 mph/881 kph) at altitudes of up to 41,000 feet (12,500m).
