Best HD Radio Tuner

Posted on November 25, 2008 by admin in audio

The Sony XDR-F1HD ($87 online) could well be the best radio tuner, at any price, says CNET. Unfortunately, even our recommended, state-of-the-art AV receiver, the Denon AVR-2809CI, does not have a built-in HD tuner, so the Sony XDR-F1HD is the best – and least expensive – way to add HD radio capability to any stereo system.

Despite its table-radio looks, the Sony XDR-F1HD has no built-in speakers, so it must be connected by regular analog RCA plugs to an unused input on your stereo gear. But be prepared for superior sensitivity. The XDR-F1HD also displays station ID, song title/artist, which any RDS-display-lacking AV receivers can also benefit from. Audiophiles rejoice!
